The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) is the only non-profit member-driven professional organization for massage therapists. The Connecticut Chapter of the AMTA has over 2100 members dedicated to serving the public through touch. Our Community Service Massage Team (CSMT) has a two-fold purpose: to raise money for a designated charity and to be prepared to assist people and organizations that respond to major emergencies within Connecticut communities. Members of our team are trained in emergency response and in using massage to help reduce the effects of stress on responders during emergency situations. Our members spent 45 days at Ground Zero immediately following the events of 9/11. Since then, our team has provided chair massage at the O&G explosion, Sandy Hook shootings, tornados in Massachusetts and Connecticut and the Boston Marathon bombings. We are the leader and resource in massage emergency response as support to emergency responders, support personnel and other responding organizations during a disaster.
