Steve J. Williamson
Steve J. Williamson
Steven J. Williamson pioneered the development of the computer-controlled gas-fueled live fire training industry back in 1985. He brought his background of electro-mechanical design from the aerospace industry into a young simulation company then known as Symtron Systems. Mr. Williamson led the development of the first commercial LFTS (Live Fire Training Systems) program as the Project Engineer for the US Navy’s new maritime fire training simulators. He then adapted the new technology to the municipal sector by designing cost effective LFTS for FDNY and dozens of cities across the US, and then afterward globally. Steve has secured over 25 patents in live fire training technologies related to structural, maritime, ARFF, mobile and petrochemical live fire training scenarios. Mr. Williamson has developed and fielded some of the largest and most complex fire training center systems worldwide over his 36-year career in the industry. Most recently, he worked with the US Navy Undersea training command to re-purpose the original 3-fire Naval Submarine Training Centers into a 13-fire, multi-hazard trainer using the same physical building but massively increasing the capability and expanding the training challenges available to the instructors for new recruits and experienced fleet students. Steve is a Voting Member of the NFPA Technical Committee on Live Fire Training and was an active participant in the development of the recently released NFPA 1402 Standard. Steve resides in North Carolina with his wife Aileen.
